About the University

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is a leading tertiary institution in Papua New Guinea, owned by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Established in 1984, PAU has grown from 20 students to over 1,000 students from across the Pacific.



The Role

PAU is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to maintain and support its IT infrastructure, systems, and applications. The role ensures system availability, security, and performance, supporting teaching, learning, research, and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers (Windows & Linux) and enterprise applications.
  • Manage Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and cloud services (Office 365).
  • Administer virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and storage systems (SAN).
  • Monitor and troubleshoot LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and firewall infrastructure.
  • Implement security controls, patch management, and compliance policies.
  • Support ERP systems, databases, and university-specific applications.
  • Liaise with vendors for upgrades, licensing, and support.
  • Contribute to IT projects, process improvements, and digital transformation initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

  • ICT qualification with 2+ years corporate ICT experience (or 3 years equivalent), including at least 1 year in a systems administrator role.
  • Experience with ERP systems and databases (SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Strong understanding of network hardware and protocols (switches, routers, firewalls, SAN).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines.
